The CMP sensor code seems to be a little bit erratic on many cars and the sensor is used when starting the car to time the right cylinder to firing order.
If the sensor is completly dead the car might not start at all but when engine is up and running the sensor doesn't do any more work.
If you search for P0340 you will find lots of posts from people that have the turbo engine. The CMP sensor in those cars is built into the ignition cassette and the code pops up many times when the cassette is nearing its end or that the spark plugs are worn.
As usual I don't want to promise a safe trip since I know the ins and outs of cars and they will always try to mess with you in the most akward places.
But I have seen the code many times on cars that did run good.
