Yes you can replace rod bearings in car but I really wonder if that is the problem or if you are just hearing the normal noise of this engine until the oil pressure have reached all valve lifters and such.
These engines have a lot of noises to begin with and lifter knock is quite common.
I have stopped worrying about the different ticking and tapping here and there from the valve train but I do make sure that the noise is not from the timing belt area that could be a sign for a failing pulley bearing.
If you decide to drop the pan, keep in mind that the connecting rods are of a "broken/cracked type". You might be familiar with what that is but I just want to mention that it is very important to keep the rough broken surface clean of dirt when putting them back together.
