I have a 2000 Saab Viggen 5-dr; Monte Carlo Yellow. I’m the original owner and couldn’t be more happy with it six years and 51k miles later. It’s gone above and beyond. This car hasn’t be pampered. It’s seen track time and come home with two SCCA regional titles. It’s been driven through some of the worst snow storms without ever losing composure or making me white knuckled; I prefer it over my old Scout 4x4 for a snow car. It’s been used like a bus to safely shuttle my three kids to daycare/soccer camps/ etc every day for years. It’s hauled my great dane and mastiff to the vet. I’ve loaded lumber in it. I’ve taken out business clients to lunch in it without embarrassment. It’s a unique car you’ll also not see parked in every parking lot in town. It never lacks in power, and never fails to impress me with it’s gas mileage.

Because of it’s heavy use, I’ve gone through an acceptable amount of wear items. I’m on my 2nd set of winter tires, 5th set of race tires, and 3rd set of summer street tires. I’ve also gone through a set of front rotors and on my 3rd set of brakes (track related mostly). I’ve upgraded the shocks (preference, not because they went bad) and everything else is completely stock.

Mechanically, it’s been more reliable than my wife’s Acura MDX and Toyota Corolla (pre MDX). I’ve gone through the DIC, had some warranty work done to the transmission, and a couple other minor adjustments. The worst heartbreaker I had with it was watching it get pummeled by a very nasty hailstorm a few short weeks after my purchase – but I can’t blame the car.

There’s little things I wished worked better, but overall they are minor when compared to gremlins of my prior vehicles. Are there better cars out there; sure, but not in the “overall” category in my mind… But while not being the best at any one thing, it’s been pretty good at doing anything I’ve tried with it. It’s put up with the abuse, and hasn’t ever left me stranded or left with an empty wallet. I’ve got nothing bad at all to say about the car.
