I think I have a manifold leak

1999 viggen with 76000 miles. I've been plagued by a fuel smell under boost and a high idle (steady idle, but anywhere from 1000 - 1500 rpm). I spent a bunch of time looking for vacuum leaks, replaced most of the thinner vacuum tubing. I also cleaned out the canister purge valve, thinking it may be the cause of the fuel smell. I have never been able to locate any fuel residue anywhere. Then I noticed a slight fuel smell around the cylinder #4. So my theory now is that I have a leak either at the injector the intake manifold gasket. A leak there would produce a vacuum leak at idle (causing the lean/high idle) and a air/fuel leak under boost (causing a fuel smell). Does anybody have a crafty way to determine where exactly the leak is, besides trying to spray carb cleaner and listen for an idle change, or water under boost (yikes)?
