If the head gasket is only leaking oil in the rear corner at timing chain side I would first try with just replacing the cylinder head bolts and retorque head gasket.

Saab was using bad head bolts between 97 and 2001 and replacing them with new and retorque seems to help in most cases.

At least it is a less costly alternative.

$1600.00 seems a bit high and is about twice the cost as what it comes up to in my shop. It might include a complete overhaul of valves and valve seats which most of the time is not needed if only the gasket is at fault.
