Head gasket leak - warranty coverage - partial update

This is an update to my thread below about the head gasket leak on our 2001 convertible with 42000 miles.
I spoke further with the dealer service dept. and asked about the cylinder head bolt possibility - was told that no, that was not the problem - they see this problem frequently and replace 2-4 head gaskets per week with cars like this. Sure sounds like a problem with the car/parts to me if that's true.
I then called Saab corporate again - long story short is that they opened a "case review" and are supposedly looking into whether they will cover or not being 4 months past the warranty time. Saab corp. and the service dept. have been in contact with each other. I am waiting to hear back.
I told the service dept. (nicely) that we would take the car somewhere else for repair if Saab isn't going to pay for it - I just said that, honestly, they charge too much. When I started getting the speech about someone else not being "Saab certified" .... well, I basically said, really, what difference does that make - especially if we're out of warranty?
The only good news is that I've had a loaner car since Thur. while they make up their minds - a very nice almost brand new Mercedes! I think a C350 - although haven't been able to drive much - been in the garage most of the time :-(
Thanks again for the advice - I'll keep you updated in case someone else has a similar warranty or near warranty issue.
