Hi All
ok I need your help here guys and Gals
Sorry about the long explination but I'm trying to get as much info as I have so that you people can try and help.....
I have a '96 900S convertable here in Aus that is having an issue with the roof System. Mechanics here just say "tonnau motor is dying, get a new one.. that'll be $3000 thanks". I've been to two of them and they don't know what's wrong or how to fix it but they both say that I need to replace the motor......
Since the issue (from what I can see) is that the tonnau motor and the softtop motor are both running fine. The Softop will go up and down without stopping and without any noise that I can hear.
The tonnau opens all the way up and then back down again.
When the roof is going to convertable mode ie roof off then the motor continues to run and try and lock the tonnau into place with the hood stowed neatly in the bag.
When going to coupe mode ie roof on then the tonnau opens, roof goes up and over. Tonnau closes again and roof back window drops almost into place but the tonnau motor continues to run and thus the roof back window stops moving about 1/2 of the way down as the tonnau is "racheting" up and down in it's place trying to close.
Issue is that the tonnau motor continues to run and try and close the tonnau even when it's locked in place.
I have checked the latches on the tonnau and they are in place.
I have checked the micro switches and they are all indicating that they are locked in place. Mechanic tells me that they diagnostic report is that all micro's are indicating locked.
I'm getting no "check latches" SID comment at any stage during the process.
I need to know what makes the tonnau motor run and what tells it to stop running.
I assume it's not the micro switches as they are all "on" and yet the motor continues to run and shut the tonnau.
Is it just mechanical so that it runs to the end of the teeth ratchet and then stops? or is there an electronic sensor that tells the motor to stop?
Does anyone have any idea or have a contact that I can talk to?
I don't have a major issue if the motor is wrecked but I can't get past that it isn't (as everything is moving the way it should) and that replacing it still wont fix the reason it's not stopping to run in the first place.
Any help is very very much appreciated.
Also thanks to the person that wrote the artical on how to close and open the roof with the manual override.
Looking forward to understanding this thing and your help.
Cheers
Andre'
