Mike:
Here are my opinions in response to your 3 questions.
1. When mine exhibited those symptoms, it was the BPV.
2. I had an intermittent CEL (P1110) for two weeks or more deciding what to do and then waiting on the part. No damage that I can tell.
3. I replaced mine with a Hyperboost adjustable unit, because it was on sale for $120. I think the Bosch unit can be had for $50 or so, so the incremental cost was relatively low. (After 21+ years, my bride is now a wife, so explanations are no longer necessary, and wouldn't be plausible anyway. By the time I bought the Hyperboost valve, I had already installed the open air intake as well as an upgraded downpipe and intercooler. In passing, I mentioned to my wife about improved efficiency when buying the performance bits, without mentioning that improving the efficiency in this manner would enable the car to empty the fuel tank much more quickly.)
The link shows my post on this subject, in case you didn't see it.
Best regards,
Dave
