Tires: MPG versus Performance even compromise?

I live in a hot part of the world so I'm really only interested in summer tires. Question being, is there an excellent tire out there that is roughly 50% mpg advantage to 50% performance?
Obviously, the harder the tires, the better mileage, and the softer the tires, the better performance (generally speaking, of course).
What types of tires are right in the middle there?
PS... Right now, I have Michelins energy mxv4plus or whatever...
