Yes, it could be the gear selector switch.
It could also be the ignition switch, TWICE unit, starter, maxi fuse 2 in engine compartment or regular fuse 36 inside car having an intermittent problem.
It could also be one of all the wire crimp connections involved in this starter circuit that conks out when hot.
You can do a search for "no crank update" on the 9-5 board and read up on MontereyAeros attempt to fault trace his way to the real problem instead of just throwing parts at the car. It's quite a bit of reading and what we face daily with intermittent problems and fault tracing them.
Your 9-3 uses the same setup of starter circuit as that 9-5.
Or you could start replacing parts on your car until the problem is solved.
My gut feeling guess would go toward the gear selector switch but I cannot guarantee that it would cure the problem.
No, it cannot be the CKP sensor since the car have a no crank scenario and not a no start scenario.
