Switch to Synthetic at 60k

I'm about to hit 60,000 miles on my '01 Viggen so I'm getting ready to tackle the 60k service. I'm also considering switching to full synthetic oil. I've done a bit of research on this site, but I've mostly managed to get myself confused with all the info out there. My main questions are: What weight should I use? Do I need to do an engine flush before switching? Should I be concerned about deposits?
I'm in Indianapolis so I definitely have cold winters and hot summers. Dealer has never mentioned any deposits or sludging, but this will be the first time I change my own oil so I really don't know what to look for. I just want this car to last forever so I could use some guidance. Thanks.
