About to start auto-rx (and NERVOUS!)

2000 9-3 base model. 83,000 miles. Auto tranny. Mostly highway miles since 30k, but all short trips (<5 miles) before then. Saab turbo oil until 45k w/ roughly 5k changes. Mobil 1 0W-40 w/5k changes since.
Well, I'm about to start an auto-rx treatment. First, I had to overcome years of indoctrination in the "all additives are snake oil" school of thought. I made it past that.
Now I'm only left with a real case of nerves about the auto-rx unleashing torrents of muck onto my oil pickup screen, starving the engine, and thus causing the very problem I'm trying to prevent (i.e., premature engine death).
I also don't know which dino oil to use. I've searched the archives and there is the usual range of opinions. I guess I'll just pick a decent Castrol.
It also alarms me that people get the "check engine" light when using Auto-Rx when the filter clogs. My training is that if you see the check engine light and suspect and oil issue, you have mere seconds to stop the engine before irreversible damage is done. I guess I'll just keep driving and sweat bullets.
So, anyway... here I go. Wish me luck.
