I have a 2000 SE with 96k and have not had near the issues you have, my old 94 SE was another story. I still have the original brakes. Given the work you have already done, you should be good to go to 200k without too much additional, just normal wear and tear items like brakes, tires, hoses, serp belt. If you have a manual trans, you may add the cost of a clutch and related hardware in there somewhere (the autoboxes have been very reliable). The key thing is sludge in the motor. With the way you drive the car (highway), the frequency and quality of oil changes and the lack of sludge now you would be best served to go for 200k as the car is not worth much on the market at this point. I think you will have an uneventful next 100k and you are ahead of the game. You will pay less for insurance, less for taxes, can park the car anywhere you want without fear and most all the depreciation is gone.

I have had six Saabs to date and find that if they are cared for 200k is very realistic, at that point I usually tire of them. The Passat is nice, but only one with very deep pockets would try to drive a Passat this far, I know, my wife has had four Audis...and once the warranty is up - ching...ching $$$$$$ OW!.
