Having been in the car business off and on for 30 plus years I've had many a customer pose the same problem to me. The truth is that there is no cheap easy way to drive that many miles. As you've already surmised, depreciation is the real problem. Even if you leased a new car every two years they'd still have 100,000 miles at the lease end-very expensive. Repairs are dirt cheap in comparison. If you put in a factory new engine and transmission every four years (at 200K) and it cost $10,000 that's still a bargain compared to just the first years depreciation. From the sound of it you maintain your car very well so there's no telling how many miles you'll get out of your Saab betweeen rebuilds, but 200,000 to 250,000 shouldn't be a problem, 300,000 is a possibility.
