The timing chains and tensioners go a really long way in these, generally. There are DIY guides here that go into how to check the timing chain tensioner and, thus, get a feel for how worn the tensioner and chain guides are. Indeed, it could also be serpentine belt/idler issues, but, that's more of a growl than a tick. Also it could be the evap/purge valve or the secondary air injection pump. You really have to just listen around in there and try to track it down.
As for the head gasket, do a compression test first. If your compression is good, then your head gasket is likely just fine. Monitor the coolant level and watch for the usual coolant-and-oil-mixing signs. If the coolant level remains good and if there are no signs of coolant in the oil or vice versa, your head gasket is good. The head bolts must be replaced if the head has to come off. 'Don't know about the brands, but, there are many parts perveyors who sponsor this board, so, feel free to pick from them. They'll usually be MUCH cheaper than buying the parts from the dealer.
Plus, the ticking you're hearing may be totally normal. You may not have anything to worry about at all.
