From your description, I think I can safely say that IF (a big IF) the wear originated from the poorly designed oil pump (fast wearing gears or relief valve) or timing/balance drive, the metal wear particles would not directly damage the other sensitive areas of the engine (crank/bearings).

Regardless, I will check the main bearing(s) for wear. Also, I've decided to order the balance chain drive as well. Its not too much more since I already have the car opened up.

I would still like some help determining part numbers for the oil pump gears, the cover, and the timing cover? Also the relief valve cylinder.. Do you have the part numbers for these for a 2002 9-3SE? I feel if I just call the parts dept at the dealership, they would either gouge me and give me the wrong part... (Having the part number helps...)
