I have an '01 9-3 and an '01 Jeep Cherokee with the I6 and must say there is NO comparison to the amount of gas it uses. Using both cars as commuter vehicles for about a 20 mile one way trip I was filling up the jeep every 4-5 days while the saab could stretch it out to 10. The Jeep will get good mileage when you're moving along at 65, but it's the stop and go, traffic, on ramp, etc that kills it. You also have to factor into the above comparison that the jeep has almost a 20 gallon tank.
Don't get me wrong, with 190k on the clock I love my Jeep, but it sucks fuel.
