Ok if we should hard line it that way.
How many minutes did it take to set up the appointment?
How many minutes did it take to talk to the customer about the problem?
How many minutes for the service manager to address the problem with the mechanic?
How many minutes for the mechanic to pick up the car and test drive it and place it on the hoist?
How many minutes to find and order the parts and receive them?
How many minutes to get the car down and test drive again after the repair?
How many minutes to finalize the repair and work order?
All these minutes plus the clean up of tools and work space is included in the complete shop labor at many shops.
It surprises me when somenone throws out a statement like that, that it only takes 5 minutes or so without thinking about all the work that goes on before and after the actual work.
But if it feels better you could call it 2 hours of fault tracing and 12 min of replacing the arms at a labor rate of $54.55/hour or whatever they charge.
The main problem here is that the original noise was not found and fixed because if it had been fixed, it would have been a lot less of a problem.
