Well, what you could do is to remove the valve cover and inspect the tensioner and chain. If the tensioner is extended more than what Saab recommend, then the chain and guides are worn.
You can also remove the tensioner in a certain way so that the extended part can be measured.
It all depends on how much you want to dig into this and how to pay for the fault tracing that still might not lead to any free repairs.
It is more common with worn timing chains on these newer Saab engines than it was on the older ones. This might be due to the lubrication issues these engines are having.
