The TPS is indeed a possibility, but according to what I've read, on T7 cars it's integrated into the throttle body and is not serviceable separately. I'm still skeptical of this considering that the problem disappears once the engine warms up, although you do make a good case for it.
Your other post about open-loop versus closed-loop operation got me thinking, though. If the O2 sensors don't start supplying good data until they're warmed up, and the ECU is instead relying on other data to estimate how much fuel to inject, a bad reading from one of those other inputs could explain my problem. Symptoms are a combination of poor idle (shuddering, and every once in a while surging) and slow throttle response (feels like major turbo lag). This continues until the engine reaches normal temperature, which used to sometimes take 15 minutes but now only takes a couple after replacing the thermostat.
Strange thing is, my actual temperature gauge seems to be working perfectly, with no erratic readings. In fact, before it got super-cold in January and would take the car forever to warm up, I knew I had thermostat issues because the temp gauge often sat at 8:00 instead of 9:00. Not sure if it's possible for the sensor to fail over part of its range, but I guess that's why I need to try checking the resistance.
