If I had the luxury of working on an engine not on the car, I'd separate the head, replace the valve stems, valve seals, valves, have it checked for square and pressure test it. Strip the engine completely and replace all seals; replace all wear items - bearings, check the crankshaft, balance shafts and bearings, chains... the whole schbang. Replace all seals, gaskets. Replace Clutch, engine/tranny mounts ; oil pump, powersteering hoses, check alternator bearings and voltage regulator; water pump, turbo - check for play.
Could be a fun project! Yes I agree with no snaab; label everything and take pics. You never know if you will be interrupted in mid project, then scratching your head later wondering how it all goes back together.
