I don't think he's a lying thief... been using him for years and have built up a trust. usually he's right, actually. every time i've 2nd guessed and gotten another opinion, he's been dead on... unfortunately.
i think the issue here is that i don't necessarily understand the whole explanation of the problem. i guess i should call him back on monday and get the story retold to me. in the meantime, i am having someone else look at it. (family member is a pro mechanic)
as far as thief... well, he told me *not* to do it... so not expecting to get any money from me.
as far as the parts and labor... it *is* a turbo... he quoted minimum of 1000 for used parts, maybe as much as 2000. as far as labor costs... 6 hrs or 10 hrs... still pricey.
point is... that's kind of the cost tipping point for me with this vehicle, unfortunately. it's been nickel and diming me a lot lately, and since my wife and teenager (a-ha!) are driving the car, i kinda need it to be more appliance-like and need less constant attention.
unless the cousin comes up with something good, that may be it for el saabo.
