PLS HELP! 9-3 stuck at gas station broken hose Posted by Nicholas [Email] (#2995) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Nicholas) on Fri, 17 Jul 2009 19:40:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Well, it seems even $5,000 later after a rebuilt engine I still can't go far in my 2000 9-3. Wife was driving the car again and noticed the "check coolant" message pop on. This time, she stopped quickly at a gas station and turned off engine. Turns out that the heater? hose had gotten a small split up near the engine. I think all the coolant is out now, and the engine was steaming a bit before she turned it off.
Now, among other parts the engine rebuild guys wanted like $400 for the heater hose assy at the time of engine rebuild. Since it was still OK , I kept the existing setup.
I'm a bit confused about this hose though, and what to do next. This hose is about 1 inch diameter semi flexible with a bend as it come up to the drivers side of the engine. Held in with a spring hose clamp. If I follow it down it ends near the firewall which is why I assume this is the heater hose. However, I can feel another spring hose clamp at the end. I was told it was not possible to replace just the hoses of the heater hose assy, and that the whole thing needed to be replaced if it broke.
Naturally, the only SAAB hose the auto parts store even indexes is the upper and that's already been replaced :(
Is there any way I could replace this hose with some kinda "standard" hose from the auto parts store? It seems pretty flexible with just a formed right angle where it comes off the engine. What hose is this? Also, PLEASE if anyone can tell me exactly what I need to do when I replace this thing. Just about everything on this car has broken at one point or another besides the cooling system. I don't know much about radiators or re-fill as I haven't had that problem much on any of my vehicles. Since I think everything else is still OK and I just sunk over $5K into this engine I REALLY don't want to damage it again.
Thanks so much for any prompt advice as I got it stuck at a freeway side gas station right now. Thankfully it's only about 15 minutes from my house .. but still it's there.
