Just checked the oil on my '01 SE 'vert (w/PCV 6), and when I pulled the stick, it was totally devoid of oil. Like, I could have licked it and tasted plastic rather than oil. I have not started the car since Monday afternoon, but have never heard any noises, noticed any leaks, or saw any smoke.
Jumped in the 9-5 and picked up 2 quarts of M1. Added one quart and the dipstick registered some oil finally (the top bulb was covered). I decided to start it up to back it up a bit because my ass was going numb trying to perform the acrobatics needed to check/pour the way it was parked. After I moved it, when I pulled the dipstick out, it was showing a normal level (middle). Let it sat for a few more minutes, checked again, and it was back down, so I added the remaining quart and about half of another.
I guess what I'm wondering is, is it normal for the dipstick to be dry if the car has sat for awhile? I plan on driving right to my indy in the morning (about 1 miles) and am wondering if it's OK to drive it there?
Thanks. I never had an oil issue in almost 8 years with my 9000 so this is making me nervous!
