I had the same problem ordered a new axel from eEuroparts.com $100 ish
They are great to deal with- super fast shipping.
I removed the lower ball joint and didn't realize that the axel could be removed- with just it removed
I hadn't turned the wheel the other way...
So my misguided effort to remove the top (steering arm linkage)ball joint, resulted in a mangled ball joint that took a LOT of heat to finally free.
So I'm waiting till a new ball joint arrives before the whole shebang goes back together.
Bad design on the Ring!
Rust had infiltrated and expanded and broke it just like yours.
Imagine that, I bet the garages will have a cash cow with that one.
When you remove the axel from the trans be sure to have something ready to catch the grease that rolls out.
Good luck!!!!!!!!
