I had to buy a spring compressor to be able to get the lower ball joint back together.
The new axel sticks out about a 1/4"more than the old so the tin dust cap won't go back on.....
After all that - everything seems good- no more fluttering.
I wonder how long before the other side goes.
The clip (1 piece with holes that adjust size)that holds the boot to the trans was difficult to secure, any tips on installing or tightening it? It's at the second hole and seems a tad loose.
I should have replaced the inner dust shield - it was rusted, bent and wanting to drag.
Next time I have it apart I'll change it.
I rate this project 6 beers and a quart of Tequila if your doing it in your driveway like me.
Live and Learn
I Appreciate all the good info.
Thanks Wayfarer and everyone else.
