Wheel bearing noise is usually fairly consistent. I'm not sure what you meant by cornering vs loading - when you corner, it always loads the opposite side (unless you're going really slow).
It may be a coincidence and your wheel bearing happened to go when you did the driver install.
Others may have ideas, but I am leaning toward a damaged/misaligned carrier bearing, or as you think, something happening in the cup.
When torquing the hub nut, you did go 125 lbs ft +45 degrees?
Another remote possibility (which happened to me when I worked on my bearings/struts). When I was done, there was a rubbing/grinding noise when I made a turn. Ended up being the brake dust shield had warped a little during my work so it was too close to the rotor. When the car turned, the hub/rotor deflected enough to rub against the shield. I just pushed it back a little and it was fine.
