When installing new calipers, is there a difference in placing the whole caliper onto the brake disc and tightening the caliper bolts vs first placing the caliper carrier, the brake pads and then the caliper itself (in this case, one must remove the guide pins...). This is how it follows in the Saab instructions, as well as here in the link provided. I've changed a rotor before, and simply compressed the piston back, removed the whole caliper assembly and did all I had to do...without fussing around with the pins.
Would it not be easier to simply install the pads in the caliper and place the whole thing onto the rotor, thus eliminating the need to do the extra step? Not sure....
