Replacing Door Speakers, But Have Some Questions

I need to replace one of the door speakers in my 2001 9-3 SE convertible and found several options on Crutchfield which meet my needs. I have two questions:
1) How do I remove the door panel? Is it more involved that simply removing the 4 screws that are visible at the bottom of the door?
2) There is a note on the Crutchfield installation page which says "The factory speakers in this location only produce bass. To get full-range sound from your new speakers, you'll need to replace the factory radio with an aftermarket stereo AND bypass the factory amp."
Does this mean that a 2-way or 3-way speaker is only going to produce base if I keep the stock head unit? I am fine with having essentially the same sound as before as long as I get something from the new speakers.
