What are the chances 2 bad turbos? Posted by Pete [Email] (#2000) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Pete) on Thu, 17 Nov 2011 11:05:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Fellow Saab folks, I need some extra brain cells on this one. Got a 2001 SE from a wholesaler with a pretty big oil leak and went ahead and replace the oil pump and crank seals. Finished it up and got a boatload of smoke out the exhaust...OK, I think, bad turbo. Go ahead and find a 32k miles used assembly off one that had been rear ended...install it with new gaskets, o-rings, etc. Fire it up, and it not only smokes, but there is now liquid oil in the exhaust and smokes like a banshee. Run compression test, #4 is down, replace head gasket (getting ready to go AND found a crack in the head), put it all back together, still smokes...
Figure the 32k turbo has bad seals from sitting, is passing enough oil that it will pump about 2 qts a minute through the exhaust. Replace it with a BRAND NEW aftermarket assembly, triple check my work, fire it up and there is still a steady stream of oil into the exhaust. If I take out the upstream O2 sensor, it will spit oil with enough force to spray droplets on the underside of the hood with the hood UP! It does start up with just a little effort and it runs w/o a miss. WHAT AM I MISSING????
