Car novice here in need of some quick advice. I have 1997 900S 4-cyl. Took car in to have some pullies replaced last week and the day I picked it up, the Check Gearbox and CE Lights came on and it went into limp mode.
This happened before 2 years ago when I took the car in for a hose replacement. Day after I picked it up, limp mode. I cannot recall completely, but back then I think they reset the codes and something else and it was no longer in limp mode.
Now the exact situation is occuring. I took it back to the shop. They said the code that came up was a Shift Solenoid code and they want to take the trans pan out and check the solenoid and shift electricity.
After reading this board, it appeared as if this might me a Neutral Safety Switch issue. I called my old Saab Mechaninc in NV and he said that he has rarely (if ever) seen the limp mode symptoms due to the solenoid and it has quite often been the NSS. He recommended that I have the codes reset and checked elsewhere and then go from there. I called the mechanic who has my car and they seem to be certain that this is not a NSS issue. So I am torn on what to do? Let them take the Tran Pan out, or take my car elsewhere. I haven't been too fond of their service in the past so I am tempted to. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I know the fixes will be costly no matter what, just want to make sure they are the right fixes. Thanks!
