I was reading through my Haynes last night and realized that the trans could come out with the engine left in place, I didn't know that until then. I think that alone has made this a project I can pull off in my garage as easily as anywhere else. Everything you've listed is in order with what the Haynes said to do. I can get the car up in the air fairly high, so there should be plenty of room to drop the tranny out the bottom. It looks like it's ~100 lbs, so it shouldn't be too hard to maneuver in and out. I am used to 175 lb truck transmissions so this will be much nicer.
Also, since I shouldn't even have to drain the coolant for this job, I think I will save the water pump job for another day.
Here's my current shopping list (some necessary, some for fun):
-Pressure plate, disk, Spec flywheel
-GS shifter alignment pins
-GS clutch flex line
-Rear main seal
-Alignment tool (I'm not sure if the clutch will come with one)
-Pressure plate bolts
-Flywheel bolts
-Brake fluid
-Slave cylinder
Anything else I should add to the list? Do the oil seals for the driveshafts ever get chewed up in the process? I'm not sure if a pilot bearing or bushing comes with any of the clutch components, so I'll need to find out on that one.
Thanks!
