I had an issue with knock (not a clunk) over rough roads on my Viggen. The former owner told me that the bumper stops were shot. This was true but not the problem. When I pulled the strut from the car, I discovered that the threaded cap, which holds the hydraulic unit (shock insert) tightly in place, to be very lose. I removed the shock, cleaned everything up, added some oil so the shock is basically in a "bath" for heat dissipation, used blue Loctite on the threaded cap, and tightened it down using the two pin spanner from Genuine Saab. No more noise for 2K miles. I see that your struts were replaced-so unless the installer did not properly tighten the cap up this is not your problem; however if the shock insert "end" is not properly sized for the ID of the locking cap then it will be a problem...did you source a Viggen specific strut? or did the shop? If it's not Saab/Viggen specific then some movement here might translate to a clunk-my insert had ~1/8 inch of play and produced a very sharp knock over rough roads. Other than pulling the strut, I'm not sure how you could quickly check this. I will take a look at mine tonight and report back. Good luck!
