Melted idler pulley - a SOB/SAAB story

I drove to Ottawa, Ontario (from NJ), and as luck would have it, the idler pulley destroyed itself on late Saturday afternoon (just AFTER all the dealerships closed). Instead of leaving the next day as planned, I had to wait until Tuesday morning before I could get a replacement pulley from 417 Saturn/SAAB/Isuzu. Aside from scraping off all the molten plastic, the pulley replacement took less than 1/2 hour (outside in -10°C), enabling me to head back to NJ immediately.
Luckily I remembered the posting about this some months ago.
The bearing in the pulley must have run dry, overheated, then siezed, melting the plastic pulley in a matter of minutes.
Just thought I'd post - CHECK YOUR PULLEYS!
While waiting the extra 2 days, I got to skate on the canal in Ottawa - a real treat! Check it out if you're in the area.
Regards & happy new year - JMJ
