I have had the rough ride on my 96 900 se for several months. In addition I've had a thunking over bumps @ potholes. Sound like it's in need of struts and strut mounts (or washers)? after reading this board, it did to me.
However SAABTECH in chicago told me today that they've hardly ever seen a "bad" front strut cartridge on a SAAB and that I probably don't need them replaced.
Also, they gave me a big explanation on the whole alignment issue, including how I "must" have the camber done, which means torsion, to a tune of $600.00 bucks if the alignment is off.
As a result of this conversation, I have a couple of questions:
1. How true is it that strut cartridges "don't go bad" typically?
2. Is it possible the riding-on-rails feeling I have can be attributable to the washer/strut mount(bearing)?
3. Am I getting the hard sell on the $600.00 alignment and do I really need one (seems to me that if SAAB thought it was an issue, there woudl be a way to adjust.
I just put 4 new tires on the car, so that's not a real issue. Any help would be appreciated!
