I understand adjusting the toe. What did the shop do about the camber? Depending on their suggestions I would be worried about bending any suspension components. The camber in my car is fine even after putting in lowering springs, I'm just curious what they were suggesting. Actually, more negative camber is a good thing on strut suspensions. As long as you rotate your tires regularly.
Now shocks:
I put in Koni shocks when I replaced the strut mount/bushings. Much better then the stock ride. The o.e. dampers did not fail, put they did not provide as controlled a ride as the Koni's did (they were pretty worn out). I also replaced the struts on my wife's Volvo about the same time ( put in Bilstein's) and the o.e. struts were far below optimum.
In defense of the tech., dampers rarely fail. They do degrade with time and use and it is hard to determine this until they are really bad. I have found that once you put new dampers on, you will wonder why you didn't do it months earlier.
