Strut Bearings and Bushings

I have a 1995 Saab 900S with 69,000 miles. After noticing a clicking in the front end when I went over bumps, I brought the car to my Saab dealer service center. They advised me that the bushings and bearings had worn to the point that they were loose causing the clicking sound. The Technican told me that the bushing material used on the 95 models was not very resilient and that Saab has seen premature failures due to the bushing wearing. In fact he informed me that Saab redesigned the bushing in later models. Saab Customer Service claims that this is not the case; that the cause of the problem is normal wear and tear.
I question Saab's claim of wear and tear. Given a 100% service record on the car and the low milage, it does not seem reasonable that a bushing would wear to failure at 69,000 miles. Do you have any information that would be helpful in understanding this problem?
Thanks!
