??? odd mileage increase Posted by MJM [Email] (#872) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MJM) on Fri, 16 Mar 2001 22:47:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
For most of the two years I've had my '95 SET, I've gotten around 23, say 22-24mpg in my around-town driving and commute. Road trips put it up between 30 and 33, depending on speed. A change of plugs last spring didn't do anything for the mileage or performance. This winter, though, I was having to feather it to get 21 around town, it just wasn't happy. This past weekend I made a quick trip to Virginia Beach and the mileage has improved since then. I usually get better mileage on the way down then on the way up (elevation change perhaps?), say 32 down and 30mpg coming back home. This time, I got about 28 going down and almost 30 coming back home, and now this week on a fresh tank of gas, I'm getting just under 25 in my normal driving.
I haven't done a thing to the car since last fall, so that's not the cause, and I fill up at the same gas station; tire pressure has been constant, too.
I figure either the car really was getting tired of short commutes (2.8 miles to work) in sub-freezing weather and just wasn't running right, or the formulation of the gas was different and now is back to normal.
I'm not totally sure I believe SID yet, but I won't know until this tank is gone. Where are Scully and Mulder when you need 'em?
