Thanks, one and all, for the input. I believe I have deduced the proper testing procedure and impedance values for the IAC valve. According to the Haynes manual, the suitable impedance range for the IAC on my 2.3 litre non-turbo engine (Motronic 2.10.2) is 9-15 ohms. It is the Trionic-equipped engines that call for an IAC impedance of 7.7 ohms. My IAC is a dual-field (coil) design with three terminal pins, and if the #2 (middle) pin is in fact ground then the proper procedure is to measure impedance between terminals 1 & 2, then 2 & 3. I did so and recorded values of, respectively, 12.5 ohms and 11.5 ohms - well within the acceptable range. So, it appears that my IAC is not defective, electrically at least. The next step, as suggested, will be to clean the IAC valve mechanism with carb/choke cleaner, and then to block and test each length of vacuum tubing with a Mityvac. Thanks once again for the advice. I'll post my further findings, which will hopefully contain a conclusive cure.
