Just mount you detector a little lower, unless you require maximim concielment (sp?) I have mine mounted at the level of my rearview mirror. It seems to work just fine. As far as laser is concerned, I does alert me when i've been hit. Fortunately i've been driving slow or already slowed down by that time. As for laser detection in general, IMHO it's just another ploy to sell more detectors. I don't think it's ever warned me in time. You juse need to pay attention. Laser is line of sight, so unless you are alone and coming over a crest or around a corner, usually there is time to scrub off some speed. Remember it does take them a second to target you. i digress.... i've had no problems mounting at that hight, just keep the antenna's below the black (unless you need to hide the detector) and you should be fine
