GM sells more cars in the world than anyone else. You don't get to that point if you aren't good at something. From a marketing and business management point of view, there is noone better to have behind Saab. So far they have influenced Saab's assembly and design quite a bit, but I believe this is a positive. Keep in mind that GM had ALOT of influence on the NG900....and the 9-5 (esp w/ the V6) is basically a souped up Saturn LS, based on the same Opel Vectra platform. The new 9-3 due out in 2003 is based on the Opel Omega (Saturn SL) platform. Only time will tell how much our Saabs will become like Saturn/Opels, but so far I believe the results are great...go drive a 9-5, you'll probably agree.
Keep in mind...they saved Saab from almost certain financial failure and disappearance when they joined forces with InvestorAB in 1991 to help dig Saab out! If it was not for GM...we'd all be driving today's equivalent of the AMC Eagle!
