No offense intended, but are you nuts? Have you ever driven a 9-5? I have to believe you haven't, because you would never make such a statement if you had. Or, perhaps we are all fools who spend $38,000 on a 9-5 when in reality we can get the exact SAME car from Saturn for $25,000?
Sharing a platform should not be viewed as a degradation of the car if the overall car is still as good as the 9-5. The 9-5 is a magnificent automobile- I have driven the Saturn LS and I promise you there is no comparison.
Your post was quite odd- you state you are in favor of GM's ownership of Saab, yet you then degrade the 9-5 by claiming it is merely a badge engineered Saturn. If that was true, then GM's ownership of Saab would be a tragedy. Luckily, it isn't.
