no, the piece is def. not gasket material, it's rigid formed or machined plastic. The errant piece appeared to be a close match to the new oil pressure relief piston, at least until I pulled the old piston out.
I don't have a good way of posting a pic, although if that would help then I'll figure out a way. Anyway, "end on" it has a crescent shape, with about a 5mm radius. From the "side" it looks like a diagonal cut was taken across the top of a cylinder about 5mm down. There are no signs of impact or of cutting. It kind of looks like it just flaked off.
