Since you have synthetic in the gearbox then you should have a six sided filler plug (as opposed to the hex plug in the '94 to '96 models that was VERY prone to stripping!!)
To gain better access to the plug, remove the battery... Then you have enough room to get a wrench in there from the side.
You know of course that you should also remove the "level check" plug on the side of the transmission. To get to that, remove the driver's side front wheel and look in along the driveshaft. To the immediate right you'll see a 8MM hex plug. Don't STRIP IT!! Make damn sure the hex socket is full engaged with the plug before turning (tap it in with a hammer). You want to add tranny fluid until it starts dribbling out the check level plug.
