Dean,

OK, my order for the Dawes MBC is in.

The good news is that I have a dremel! The bad news is that I am terrified of screwing up this piece of work. I figure if you grind too much away, you are in deep doo doo. How much is a new throttle body? Also, there seems to be a square dent in the aluminum intake tube on top of the engine running to the throttle body. Is this normal.

The whole reason why I am doing these upgrades is that Saabs in Florida depreciate faster than Dungy's (Buc's coach) career this season. Went to look at a trade in (multiple dealers incl. Saab), and they offered under 10 grand. Was looking at getting a X.5 4.4. BTW, my car's paint shines like crystal, the interior is cleaner than a doctor's office, and the engine is 100%.

IMHO Saab needs to spend some effort on 2 fronts: Marketing and Dealer development. Saabs are well built, versatile cars with character that really know how to serve up performance (vs. BMW 3series and Audi A4, that don't have enough headroom to be comfortable..). Unfortunately, they are so poorly marketed in the US that they do not have the cachet of comparable cars such as BMW 3xx and A4. Match that up with an indifferent and inconsistent dealer network, and you have the depreciation I experienced. The spy photos I have seen of 9-3 sedans scare me. They look like Oldsmobiles. For decades, Saabs to me have been hatches. Is this a sell out to GM product planning?

So f*** it. Rather than putting 50k into a new ride, I'll put about 5k into the Saab. Actually having fun doing the maintenance myself. Mod it to the level where its totally loaded for bear and drive it for another 5 years.
