I currently have a 1995 900S with 98K and a 1993 900S with 95K....so I'll chime in here.
I've owned the 93 since it had 30K on it and the 95 since it had 78K on it.
In the past I have also owned a 91 9000CDTurbo, a 1987 9000S and a 1986 9000Turbo.
I think that the NG900 is thousands of miles more refined and better designed than the classic 900.
It is quiet, smooth, and more civilized. I would say reliability is similar between the two cars. They both act like Saabs....very good cars which each have a few problem areas which happen on every one and are very predictible.
If I had to choose between the two as my only car, I would choose the NG900 b/c its such a pleasure to drive. Don't get me wrong, I love the classic 900's unique styling and its landmark automotive design, but it is (as they have always been) a little awkward, klunky, loud on the inside, and stiff.
But the classic 900 is so rawly mechanical, I love it, but many people hate this about it.
The great thing also about the classic is...like it or hate it...when it comes over the hill you know right away what it is. The NG900 is a more homogenized design, but refinement comes at a price I guess.
Feel free to e-mail me.
