Very well put indeed!
I have both classic and NG 900s.
Classic handles WAY better than NG. Even stock. I have spend countless hours fine tuning the chassis and now it is even better. About 300k on that one. Still beats Hondas at local autocross events. Still gets 33 mpg on the highway. Still comfortable and an excellent long distance cruiser. Engine feels strong and brakes are track-quality.
NG900 is WAY more comfortable and refined. Noise levels are simply incomparable. My classic 900 is a bucket of nuts and bolts, rattling and vibrating from every direction. My NG900 is quiet as a bank vault. It does not feel as stable at speed as the classic, but I suspect it needs new tires, shocks and alignment. Also feels very safe and composed at 100+ mph. Gets slightly poorer gas mileage -- about 29-30 mpg. Engine, despite being bigger and more powerful, does not feel much stronger.
Reliability wise, my NG900 is much better than my classic 900. It has really been very trouble-free. Knock on wood. The classic is also pretty reliable, although not completely free to operate. Maintenance items aside, things like power windows and A/C are somewhat trouble-prone. Engine is bulletproof. Gearbox and clutch have endured years of rough autocross use without any problems. Knock on wood, again.
