ECU and high idle/upshift light Posted by MJM [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Ok, I've posted on this before without resolving the issue, but maybe the new folks on the bb will have some insight.
My '95 SET (83k) has an intermittent problem when on start-up it will go immediately to a high idle, between 2000-2500 rpm. Blipping the throttle does not affect the idle rpm. What I have found in the past is that pinching the hose leading to the IAC valve will bring the idle down, so it seems like the ECU is telling the IAC to open for some reason. The ACC is programmed to start on "ECON", turning on the AC doesn't affect the high idle. After a few minutes (2-10), the idle will suddenly return to normal (~1000 indicated). During this time the upshift light will stay illuminated between shifts, ie., when my foot is lifted off the throttle.
This condition sometimes occurs independent of start-up. I'll be driving along and the car will give a little shake, the upshift light will stay on during throttle lifts, depressing the clutch reveals an idle state of ~1800-2000 rpm. After a few minutes it goes away.
Being an intermittant condition, the dealer has not been able to observe the condition, and no codes are stored. The check engine light never comes on.
The IAC has been replaced and the TPS has checked out fine. This problem has been in existance for the last ~3 years and ~40k miles.
Thoughts?
thanks, Mike
