I have posted on shocks/struts before. I have 2 cars, 1996 Saab 900SET and I replaced the tired stock units with KYB at roughly 80K. This was a BIG mistake and I should have gone with the Bilstein units. DO NOT buy KYB units.

In my other car, 1994 Volvo 850 Turbo wagon, I tried to get the Bilstein TC units because I was concerned about the ride (after all this is the "family" car), but I was "talked" into Bilstein HD units because the TC offering is new to the market and Bilstein is having trouble meeting market demand for my car. The cost savings is not that much, so I went with the HD units. So far I can say the ride is great and when pushed the valving reacts accordingly. I suggest you spent a few extra $$ and get the HD units. They seem to last forever my friend tells me who also autocrosses on weekends.

I cannot speak for the Koni units and they do seem expensive. The Sachs are more like stock and if you are going to upgrade other suspension related items you would be crazy to do this with stock grade struts.

Shop online for the best deals. The most popular place seems to be SHOX.COM. The offer decent pricing AND if you push hard enough you can negociate pricing with them. You can also find Saab performance websites that also sell Bilstein.

This is my 2 cents and I hope it helps.
