A philsophical question about car-buying (LONG)

Hi all,
I have been struggling with the decision of which car to buy for weeks now and I thought it might make a sort of interesting topic for conversation on the bulletin board. Here's my delemma, I've just graduated from grad school and I want to buy a Saab. I've always had old Saab's (all 9000's) and think they are the greatest cars on earth. Now I have about $10,000 to spend and I'm trying to get into a NG900 convertible, preferably turbo. Basically I've found two varieties of Saab in my range (excluding V6's and automatics), there are lower milage 900se's out there with around 75,000 that seem to be mechanically intact but have lots of visual defects ei. dings in the doors, worn out leather, dented rims, etc. And there are cars that have been meticulously maintained but have very high milage (115-140k). Which is better?
My first impulse was to buy a lower milage car figuring that I could fix up to cosmetic details over time and I would have a strong mechanical platform to work with, but since I am relatively close to New York City (about an hour) I have begun to worry that these cars may have had a tough life too close to the city and there may be serious problems lurking underneath the surface.
The other option is also tricky though. Saab's are famous for their long-life but to buy one of these high-milage cars you have to REALLY trust the seller. And I saw a convincing arguement made by a contributor on the 9000 board who said that the car you really want to avoid is the one that has been started and driven short distances all of its life. Its during start-up when the motor oil is still cold that most of the damage occurs. But still I worry about fatigue...
So its, city car or country long-commute car. What do you think?
Best!
Tim
